Venues For Indiscretions

Fancy a big night filled with indiscretions? Want to cut loose, dance on tables, see dawn rise over your beer or embark on a pash-and-dash frenzy? Here are some of best (or equally worst) bars, clubs and pubs to visit when you have a hankering for mischief.

1

Mansions Hotel
Kings Cross
Set right in the heart of sleazy Kings Cross, this institution always treats both out-of-towners and rowdy locals to a rollicking good time. Expect beer, beer and more beer. The recent renovations can't change the atmosphere.

2

Establishment
Sydney
Recently broken up with your boyfriend or girlfriend? Want to cut loose after work and pash a few random suits? Everybody knows that the willing 'pashees' hang out at Establishment. Winks and pick-up lines are a definite possibility.

3

Revolver Upstairs, Bandroom
Prahran
Revolver Upstairs is the kind of place that you always seem to wind up in at the end of the night, with that bewildered 'how did this happen again?' look on your face. The venue is a giant magnet for anyone with a good eye for a big night out. Expect rock pig invasions, tarts out for an all-nighter and young punks looking to get a solid thrashing on the pool table. Revolver has a combination of attractions that other bars have tried but failed to replicate. Plus you just can't get that sort of ingrained dirt (that Revolver has in spades) in a brand new bar.

4

Mooseheads Bar & Nightclub
Canberra
Spanning four levels, 'The Moose' is a hotspot for hedonism. Commercial house tunes and rowdy pub anthems are staples. Lads with military haircuts and undergrad girls come here to down cheap drinks and pash on.

5

Beach Palace Hotel
Coogee
Set right next to Coogee Beach, this place attracts surfies, backpackers, loud-mouthed larrikins, rugby heads and school leavers flapping their fresh IDs at the bouncers. Messiness is almost mandatory here.

6

The Old Bar
Fitzroy
Cheap beer? Check. Live acts? Check. This place is a platform for local and overseas bands and experimental theatre acts, as well as amateur musicians keen for their first real audience. Expect anything from raw rock legend Billy Childish, to a mop-haired solo guitarist wailing and thrashing around in a white singlet and thongs. As you might gather, there's no dress code.

7

Lot 33
Kingston
Compact, crowded and pulsing from within, Lot 33 is a serious destination for hardcore clubbers who want house, house and more house.
Aside from resident DJs, Lot 33 also hosts international guest acts almost every month. Pnau, Dave Seaman and Mark Dynamix have all hit the decks here.
Tapas and nachos help sustain partygoers who have worked up the munchies.

8

Birdee Num Num
Fortitude Valley
Birdee Num Num is part of a backpackers' joint. It has a swimming pool, so bikinis, boardies and booze all go together here. This place has also been known to hold occasional jelly wrestling competitions. Unsurprisingly, mischief is rife at Birdee's, particularly during the summer. If you need a room (for whatever reason) the staff at the backpackers' joint may be able to put you up.

9

Vine Hotel
Richmond
It's been a big night. You and your friends have been out for hours, bar hopping through Richmond. Now it's 2am and the last drinks have just been called, but you want to keep on rocking. Through the night sky, The Vine's red and green neon sign glows like a beacon, attracting all the tipsy barflies who think it's far too early to call a taxi and go home to bed. This pub's features include a digital jukebox, pool room and pokies.

10

Judgement Bar
Darlinghurst
Wind up at this Oxford Street icon when every other watering hole has called it a night. The regular clientele includes a mix of aging rock stars, curious youths, listless artists and nocturnal nomads. Fancy a 9am beer, anyone?

11

Bristol Arms Retro Hotel
Sydney
Retro by name and nature, this place is one for the over-30s crowd. Regulars come here to drink up, dance all night, pash in corners and stumble down the steps at the end of the night.

12

ARQ Nightclub
Darlinghurst
Proudly gay but also all-embracing, ARQ thumps its hardest after 1am. Party hard here and don't expect anyone around you to be shy or demure. Anything goes. Foam parties and day club events are also regular fixtures.
