Love is in the air: boozers for wooing this Valentines Day

Valentines Day is the official spot on the calendar for lovers. You can be mushy as heck, and damned if anyone's going to tease you, you have a license to woo!

Even the most cynical types go weak at the knees come February 14 once a dozen red roses land on their desk.

So, whether you're one of those oh-so-brave souls who has decided Valentine's Day is the perfect night for a first date (you idiot!), or you just want to let your long-time significant other know that they're awesome (even though you don't say it enough and have stopped wearing cologne), we've come up with a list of places conducive to the 'L' word.

1

The Apothecary 1878
Adelaide
This converted antique chemist shop has the most charming decor. Think French-patio-meets-Madame-Curie. They also have more than 1000 different wines from our backyard and across Europe, so if you can't find a drop here that your date likes, get a new date they're clearly crazy.

2

Liquorish
Bulimba
This warm and friendly pocket of class in Bulimba is at once chic yet pretension-free. Head here if you want to impress, but also don't want a posh, narky waiter to make you look like an idiot. These things are important.

3

La Boheme
Adelaide
This intimate, French-inspired wine bar is for the boy who can't afford the plane trip to Paris, but is clever enough to know that deep down, that's what every girl wants.

4

Luxe Bar
Highgate
Located a little out of the rabble, this lush little venue is renowned for its good service - and even better cocktails. Settle in with someone cute in one of their cosy booths and order a Lychee Love.

5

Hula Bula Bar
Perth
This is one for couples with a sense of humour. Maybe those around the three-year mark are well and truly passed the stage of courting each other, and already know they're going to get lucky when they get home. There comes a time in every relationship when you need to see each other in a hula skirt.

6

The Long Room
Melbourne
This warm and classy establishment is a great date venue. Aside from the obvious plus points of being Manhattan-inspired, having a well-stocked bar and being populated by Melbourne's hip kids, the food on offer comes in the form of sushi and tapas. This means that if you are on a date with one of those silly girls who eats like a pigeon, she'll feel really at home with her teeny tiny plate.

7

Alhambra
Fortitude Valley
This club may be busy with those in the Valley who like to be seen, but there are plenty of plush hiding places to avoid the melee and have an intimate drink

8

The Argyle
The Rocks
This multi-layered super bar takes 'grand chic' to a whole new level. This place is an empire, and with so many nooks and crannies, you can woo your lover in one corner, and might never even see your girlfriend being wooed in the other.

9

Dome
Surry Hills
Adorned with lush furnishings and decorated with evocative Renaissance images, this sultry bar above the Crown Hotel has couches that look suspiciously like beds. Definitely one for lovers.
