Tony Starr's Kitten Club
Melbourne
|
An all-time favourite! This place has super delish bartenders with a flair for making (my favourite) Cookies & Cream cocktail. Kitten Club offers so much behind its garish green door. Enter the Love Lounge for some private booths and intimate lighting or stay downstairs for smooth jazz and flowing conversation. The ladies' powder room is simply gorgeous with its couches and beauty parlour-style layout.

Transit Cocktail Lounge
Melbourne
|
'Lovely to look at, lovely to hold... if you touch it and break it, consider it sold'. The delicacy and opulence of Transit hits you in the face as soon as you set foot inside this cigar lovers' heaven. Fortunately, the maitre'd and bar staff ooze charm and pleasantness, instantly relaxing even the most uptight of patrons. Recline back into the wood-finished Chesterfields, sip on a Japanese Slipper, light up your cuban or wander past the gauze to gaze upon Melbourne's glorious night sky. This place is romantic, unpretentious, warm and fun.
The Saturday night jazz bands only add to Transit's charm.

Cookie
Melbourne
|
Loud, messy and a lot of fun!Friday nights at Cookie are jam packed and the bustle of the venue is just the thing to get your blood pumping again after a week of work. Set up like a tavern with wide benches and tables, Cookie attracts an upmarket but inwardly cool crowd. The DJ plays a wide variety of tunes ranging from dubstep to The Jackson 5, but it's near impossible to hear music over the buzzing crowd around you. The juliet balconies overlooking Swanston Street offer some intimate relief from this happening bar, but most people come to Cookie to get amongst it, not avoid it. This is an excellent bar. Our only gripe is that trying to get TO the bar on a busy night can be difficult.

Hush Bar
Melbourne
|
In a shopping centre without the baby screamers, bogan smokers or dosed-up sales assisants, Hush Bar is still a peacock amongst turkeys. But forget about the fact that you're in Melbourne Central and Hush is a bar that's worthy of mention. With a huge balcony offering views over the majestic State Library (whose pillars glow at night) and featuring an open fire blazing, this is THE pick for Sunday night cruising. Hush has warm tunes to knead those knots out and drinks to calm the soul. It's a wonderful place for a weekend wind down.
