Footy Favourites

It's no secret that Melbourne loves its footy, and as the 2007 AFL season begins to hot up devotees are donning their colours and cramming into rowdy pubs across the city to raise hell in support of their team. Here then is our list of the top pubs for watching Collingwood become this year's premier club.

Add your favourite AFL pub by sending its name and a brief reason why to editor@yourbars.com.au.

1

Mountain View Hotel
Richmond
We all know that the only real way to watch a game is to be there, but for those without tickets this is about as close to things as you can get. Well placed to snag the pre and post-game crowds, this three storey gem offers all the atmosphere of the game. Well, almost.

2

The Leveson
North Melbourne
Owned and run by dual premiership Kangaroo Corey McKernan, this pub knows its footy. Plasma screens and a large video projector keep you updated on the action while you knock back some of Melbourne's top brews and take in the stylish surrounds.

3

Napier Hotel
Fitzroy
Proud enough to stick to its original local vibe, this paraphernalia-packed pub has thankfully avoided the recent reno trend. The famous Bogan Burger will surely satisfy even the mightiest footballer and there's a decent beer selection available to help wash it down.

4

East Brunswick Club Hotel
Brunswick East
A live band venue and sports pub, this club knows how to balance them both with big screens dedicated to all the top action. Plenty of lounges are available for when the barracking energy runs low. Refuel with cheap jugs and hearty gourmet parmas.

5

Turf Bar
Melbourne
Decently located within walking distance of the Telstra Dome, this sport mad pub serves more than 20 varieties of local and imported beers. There's also a decent wine list. Relax over a game of pool while you keep an eye on the game being screened on the giant plasmas.
