Best Beer Gardens
Here are my favourite beer garden bars. Cold beer and hot sun are a great combination.

Cafe Lounge
Darlinghurst
|
Not many people know about this place. It's a real hideout and it has a bit of a Melbourne feel as well. Grab a couchy spot outside, then kick back. There's beer, sunshine (usually), background tunes, pizza and some cocktails. Service is friendly and a little left of the middle. It's vintage Darlinghurst.

Courthouse Hotel
Newtown
|
The beer garden here buzzes in summer. It packs out with hordes of Newtown pub moochers who scoff burgers and sink schooners. No attitude. Just relaxed, boozy lounging in the open air. Ahhhh!

Ryan's Bar
Sydney
|
This one is ideal for weekdays and is great if you're working in the city and want a sneaky 3pm bevvie. Where else can you drink in the city and work on your tan at the same time? At Ryan's, there's beer, there's sun and there's often sports coverage on big screens. The crowd is corporate and suity. Expect to pick up - or be picked up - on Friday nights.

Golden Sheaf Hotel
Double Bay
|
Eastern suburb princesses and designer lads like this joint. It's a classic pub with a poser edge. Well it's right in Double Bay, so that's the way it goes! I like it too. Order a beer, soak up the rays and tell everyone about your new BMW or latest investment acquisition... or whatever.
