Australian Bar Awards Finalists: New Bar of the Year

Now in its eighth year, the Australian Bar Awards has become one of the most respected award nights of the hospitality industry. The awards recognize excellence across 23 categories, including Bar of the Year, Cocktail of the Year and Bartender of the Year.

With the finalists recently announced, we're keeping our eye on the finalists for New Bar of the Year. Stay tuned for the results, to be revealed on September 17.

1

Piano Room
Potts Point
Part-cocktail lounge, part-supper club and part-cabaret room, this recent addition to the Kings Cross scene was designed with a slightly more grown-up crowd in mind.

2

The Rum Diaries
Bondi
As the name suggests, this tapas bar has a reputation for serving up exotic rums to warm your belly. This moodily lit venue is the place to chat with old friends.

3

Siglo Bar
Melbourne
Situated on a city rooftop, this chic salon-styled cocktail/wine bar is in a league of its own, with light meals, boutique beers, wines and cigars on offer.

4

Sticky Bar
Darlinghurst
This hidden treasure is a dark moody cave where you can sink into shabby chic couches. Sip on fancy cocktails made with unusual liqueurs like the sweet, almond-flavoured Amaretto.

5

1907
Perth
This former rag trade factory has been renovated beyond recognition to become one of the city's most luxurious bars.

6

Seamstress
Melbourne
Seamstress joins the recent up-cropping of modern bars in Chinatown, adding something different to the usual karaoke hall scene and street-level hawker-style cuisine.
