With a name straight out of 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy', this pub is nonetheless very down to earth. Come in on Tuesdays to soak up some jazz.
Once upon a time, the Worldsend Hotel might have been aptly named, perched near the top of Hindley Street's seedy west end. However, over the last decade, the area has come alive and now the pub is the genial patriarch of a buzzing entertainment district. Nightspots such as Supermild, Jive, the Enigma Bar, Cherry Bomb Down and the Elysium Lounge are all within easy staggering distance.
As with so many of Adelaide's finest pubs, Worldsend Hotel is also a well-loved restaurant. You can't go wrong with the salt and pepper squid and an icy glass of Coopers Pale. The pub also has an impressive wine list, along with the usual spirits and liqueurs.
Tuesday nights feature the stylings of in-house combination The Fred Neeson Jazz Explosion, while regular funk and house DJs keep the vibe hyped on most other nights.
There's additional seating outside on Hindley Street, around the back in the beer garden and at the front. Occasionally the upstairs area is opened for special events, such as theatre performances during the Fringe Festival and the Cabaret Festival. All in all, this spot is definitely the perfect staging platform for a big night out.
