What happens when sibling rivalry is channelled into something useful? One classy establishment, which oozes so much 'it factor' you won't even question the giant equestrian sculpture by the window.
It's fair to say that boozing on Sydney's Oxford Street is often a bit hit and miss. Of late, however, there's been a definite move to bring back classy. Leading the pack - a veritable diamond in the rough - is The Polo Lounge and Supper Club.
The latest venture from the brothers who brought you the now-defunct Victoria Street institution of the same name, The Polo Lounge and Supper Club is an unquestionable example of style, class and opulence. Occupying the two floors above the Oxford Hotel, the establishment is divided into the Supper Club and the Polo Lounge, harking back to the days when it wasn't un-PC to visit a gentlemen's lounge.
While you wander up from street level - your peepers planted on the mammoth four-story Renaissance-style mural before you - you'll be greeted by the sounds of funk and soul flowing down the stairs from the Supper Club.
In The Polo Lounge, where luxurious black leather chesterfields are spread across an oak parquetry floor, you can sip such aptly titled cocktails as the 'Thank God I'm a VIP' (Stolichnaya vanilla vodka, passionfruit liqueur, lemon juice and passionfruit nectar, served with a side of sparkling wine).
Finally, don't panic. You haven't drunk too much. That really is a giant black statue of a horse over by the window.
