This beautiful former church has been a hot spot in Northcote folk for years, so join the flock and get along.
High on the hill among the mushrooming bar scene in Northcote, Wesley Anne was one of the first to pop up and put the call out to locals to join them for a drink.
Taking its name from the Wesley Anne church that the gorgeous building used to operate as, this bar sets itself apart from its rivals with soaring ceilings, an enormous beer garden, and some of Australia's best microbrews on tap.
Many of the church's adornments have been resurrected, with large crosses over the bar, and half wine barrels adorning the walls. A wagon wheel sized wrought-iron chandelier softly illuminates this candle-lit dark wooden bar.
At the back of the main bar are some secluded booths, fitted out with heavy drapes, perfect for long confessions or plotting sinful activity. Out the back, the beer garden hosts a massive open fire, with a section of an old bell covering the flames.
The wine list has been constructed around value for money with ripping examples of Australian and NZ classics from all the major regions. There's music on the stage and local sculptures decorate the eaves - check out the corrugated iron goat and boar on your way to the loos.
