A glittering modern venue in a series of modern establishments on the Docklands row, this bar keeps things relaxed, with sport and beer featuring prominently.
Watermark rounds off the strip of designer bars and restaurants on the Docklands promenade, but, despite its expensive company, it has an open, non-elitist vibe. Labourers and corporate high-flyers sit companionably side by side, sipping pots of boutique beer.
Pounding techno beats, an industrial staircase and huge, wall-mounted plasma screens give the ground floor a modern sports bar feel. Slightly quieter times can be found at the outdoor tables, which are kept gently humming all day and into the night with drinkers seeking the stunning bay views. When the fight for the outdoor tables becomes too fierce or soggy weather subtracts from their appeal, sneak upstairs for a relaxing glass of red and some tapas nibbles. The upstairs loft-style bar and lounge features comfy couches, floor-to-ceiling windows and a private bar.
Heineken, Kirin, Beck's, Boag's and James Squire Golden Ale all splash from the taps. More than 40 wines grace the wine list, with the mainly Australian selection complemented by imported French Champagnes. For that special occasion (and what occasion isn't), the glassed-in pavilion bar is a bubble-shaped corner of class, complete with panoramic views.
I took some clients to Watermark to thank them for their continued business and support throughout the year. We started with a lovely bottle of French Bubbly followed by shared starters, delicious mains and desserts to die for. The staff were very attention, food and atmosphere were great, and best of all, clients were impressed and enjoyed the evening immensly. I was told that this venue is under new management, so great work and thanks for a terrific evening.
