Its greatest asset is its spaciousness; on weekends early bird groups of friends can stake their claim over huge tables or generous armchairs, still leaving space for the sleepy-heads when they eventually arrive.
There's an understated charm about the decor, with pretty - though quite bright - lighting, whimsical paintings and splashes of cushions creating a setting suitable for both intimate couplings and larger gatherings.
For a casual drink there's also a courtyard and an alfresco area that fronts onto the street, with friendly table service. The wine list tends to focus on Australian and Kiwi produce, and there are plenty of snacks available. The 'vibe dips' and the nachos with grippy cheese are faves, as is the antipasto plate.
But perhaps Vibe's biggest claim to fame in local lore is its upstairs function room, which you enter via a grand sweeping staircase. Fitting up to 80 guests, the room usually accommodates business get-togethers and seminars. That said the downstairs vibe will definitely do for a catch-up - or even a date.
