Tucked within a luxe heritage-listed building, this cocktail lounge oozes decadence.
In a moment, you can step from Stanley Street's scruffy Italian quarter to the red carpet entrance of the Verde establishment. The European flair, the social, open-planned couched area and the private booths and smoking balcony can make a Verde visitor feel like a VIP guest at an important Italian designer's party. With cocktails in the form of aperitifs, mains and desserts, you can kick off the night with a Ginnie Henderiks, which includes Hendricks's gin, fresh lemon juice shaken with cucumbers and pink grapefruit and topped with tonic; and then choose some of the mains, including the Leatherwood, a Screwdriver twisted with mint and Leatherwood honey. There are dessert cocktails too, including the vodka and amaretto-based Marzipane, and the Portocello, consisting of homemade limoncello, fresh juice and Penfolds Grandfather port. If you don't plan on eating at the restaurant downstairs there is a tapas menu which includes garlic prawns, prosciutto, traditional Italian sausage and a few vegetarian options. There are plenty of other places in the area to order Peroni, but Verde takes the Italian dining sophistication cake and is well suited for pre-dinner drinks, post-dinner drinks, drinks on Friday; and of course any other occasion to have a drink.
