The team behind Restaurant Two take it up a notch with this intimate venue offering fine dining and classic cocktails.
Not that you'd die of thirst in Ann Street, but let's say your grade 9 French won't get you around the list at Belle Epoque and you're a bit weary of the puffed-up crowd at Emporium. Maybe all your Lanvin is in the wash or your acrylics haven't been filled since Tuesday, or you just want a drink somewhere Philippe Starck-free.
Suave but unstuffy, modern but masculine, the bar at Bistro Three is where you should go. The duo behind Two Small Rooms and Restaurant Two is now a trio, with Peter Marchant joining David Pugh and Michael Conrad as they again tap into the escalating pulse of Brisbane's food and drink scene. But while the bar at Two is airy and grand, Three's is more intimate and subdued, with charcoal and chocolate tones and the right amount of wattage in the bulbs. If a good view exists in the Valley then I'm yet to see it, but the passing parade of Emporium's Friday-night folk - in varying phases of youth and sobriety - is still an entertaining sight. The cocktail list is classic and equally devoid of pretentions, but they'll make a Fluffy Duck if you really want one, and like all of Michael Conrad's staff, they'll make it well, and serve it with a smile.
