Loads of live music is on the menu at this Valley spot. Expect anything from rock, pop and jazz to folk, dub and reggae.
While chi-chi bars keep their image up-to-the-minute with exclusive guest lists and designer-clad bar staff, this Valley venue openly defies any such frivolities. Instead, The Zoo manages to be the cool kid on the block by touting a 'come one, come all' policy. Here, eclectic tunes and good times are more important than Jimmy Choo shoes and chilled martinis. Put simply, Zoo exists purely for the music.
Since bursting onto the scene back in 1992, Zoo has been dishing out loads of live music and even a few friendly ghosts (thanks to the venue's former life as a war hospital).
Supporting young and unknown 'never bands', this spot has become a popular haven for aspiring musos. In fact, over the years many struggling artists have joined the Zoo staff list. Even members from such legendary bands as Powderfinger and Regurgitator have served time pulling beers behind the bar.
The live tunes at Zoo range from rock and pop, all the way through to folk and dub. Saturday afternoon's Dub Sessions event provides chilled reggae beats, as well as free pool, board games and cheap sangers.
Meanwhile, Jazz on a Sunday Vibe falls on the last weekend of each month, and offers up live performances from local, national and international acts.
