Having trouble dragging loved ones away from the marketplace? Step into this bustling bar for a glass of local vino and a moment of respite.
The charming township of Salamanca might be best known for its markets, but when you're all worn out from wearing out your wallet, The Quarry will be waiting like an old friend with a cold beer to help you lament the purchase of that pet rock.
One of Hobart's finest restaurants and bars rolled into one, The Quarry is equally suited to that awkward first date (you can use the sandstone walls as a talking point) or if you have a larger party in mind, book one of the private booths. The venue spills out into a generous courtyard with its own bar, which is heated in wintertime for those not used to the southern chill.
The wine list is unashamedly local with a great many of the 80 varieties on offer sourced from nearby regions. Favourites are the Panorama sav blanc from the south end of the isle, or the Dalrymple pinot hailing from the north.
Cocktails are there for the more adventurous, with the house special Quarry Apple Martini a favourite with regulars. If you need a hand soaking up all that tipple, aside from the extensive restaurant menu, there's a full range of bar snacks, ranging from the Quarry tasting plate to the reliable pale ale-battered fat chips.
