Home to one of the most enviable rooftop bars in the CBD, the Order has a vast and stylish layout topped off by some intriguing decorative touches.
Bucking the trend of bolthole bars that have sprung up like spring flowers in the CBD, the Order of Melbourne has a rare luxury - space. This vast and stylish bar has been cleverly designed by its owners to give patrons room to move, and three very distinct areas in which to relax and unwind.
At the front of the Order are banks of inviting couches enclosed within art deco timber and glass surrounds, featuring low ceilings with faux pressed-metal decoration. Move on through to the main bar and take in the soaring ceiling and exposed beams, dark oriental timber doors and some artfully placed taxidermied trophies. If the weather is warm, head straight to the rooftop and take in the views of the State Library and the avant garde architecture of RMIT.
There's plenty on offer behind the bar - bottles of Mumm for fitting celebrations, or longnecks of Coopers to wash away a long week. There is a good range of mostly Australian wine, and a healthy number of spirits on offer, ranging from the quality drops you know and love, to the heights of excess. The Order specialises in cocktails and the already ample menu will soon burst its bindings into a full-blown cocktail book, including 15 of the house-specialty iced teas.
