Attracting young crowds on the weekends and sports devotees during the week, this popular Norwood mainstay boasts an award-winning beer garden and much more.
Attracting young crowds on the weekends and sports devotees during the week, the Alma Tavern seeks to be the "ultimate pub" with its selection of beers, live entertainment and themed events (including poker and movie nights). Even two of Adelaide's most popular footballers, Mark Ricciuto and Simon Goodwin from the Crows, have pulled the odd pint at the bar for thirsty fans, who often watch the footy on the giant screen and multiple plasmas scattered about the venue. However, you don't have to be a footy fanatic to enjoy yourself here, especially on weekends when the dance floor fills up and the pool tables are abuzz.
One of the Alma's drawcards is its outdoor beer garden (or "skybar"), which won the 'Best outdoor/Al Fresco Facility' award for South Australia at the 2007 Australian Hotel Awards. Indeed, it's a beer garden for all seasons, inviting the cool breeze during warmer months, and providing outdoor heating during colder climes, remaining sleek and cosy with its table and ottoman seating, marble bar and - yes, they are truly everywhere - more plasma screens. Lounge about indoors too, where you can gaze at a wall aquarium of tropical beauties while sipping an equally exotic cocktail.
