Leave your inhibitions at the door and step inside this unpretentious nightspot for alternative music and live entertainment amongst the odd washer and dryer.
This club caters to the boho Fitzroy crowd, offering an eclectic array of drum & bass, house, breaks, indie, hip hop and funk. Since opening its doors in 1998, The Laundry has fast become a popular, alternative nightspot among punters who have had enough of yuppie clubbers elsewhere. The Laundry is a 'come as you are' kinda joint, where the music, and having a good time, is all that really matters. Spanning two floors, this club has an atmosphere that's decidedly funky. The downstairs bar is a red-lit room, dotted with pool tables, couches covered in old-school vinyl, and the odd washer and dryer adding to the laundry theme. Upstairs is where most of the action happens, with a large dance floor and events held most nights of the week. Wednesday nights hosts wild Extreme Karaoke, and visitors can enjoy $8 jugs and giveaways while getting involved in some live air guitar antics and amateur singing. For those with 'real' talent, there is a chance to shine with open deck and open mic on Tuesday nights. There's a good range of bevvies available, including a selection of local and imported beers, and a varied cocktail list.
