Gay but not exclusively so, this place is a party playground for a diverse crowd and the vibe here is 'anything goes'. Glowsticks are not just appropriate; they're sold in-house.
With seven bars and three beer gardens, this enormous venue is a community within itself.
Inside the Street Bar, old school rockers chill out to '70s and '80s favourites, while the adjacent Main Bar thumps away to house and techno. Gaudy drag queens chat with suits and the podiums are the stomping grounds of girls in designer jeans. Drag starlets perform Rocky Horror Picture Show numbers now and then, and glittery dazzlers such as Trixie Lamonte from Les Girls entertain the diverse crowd with further live performances.
Upstairs in the Crystal Bar, scantily clad boys, transvestites and gay-friendly regulars dance to chart hits under multicoloured lasers. Downstairs in the Wreckers Bar, DJs spin hard house, trance and techno from decks set inside the back of a van. Hardcore ravers party around 44-gallon drums, surrounded by spray-painted wall murals of trashed cars.
Inside the Cockatoo Bar, more laidback groups play pool and chat, while the three beer gardens are utilised by everyone who wants to have a breather.
Drinkwise, there's plenty of bottled beer and a modest wine list. For a cocktail hit, try the eerily seductive Green Demon cocktail (vodka, Bacardi and Midori). The Beat Shop inside the Main Bar also sells glow sticks, energy drinks and snacks for clubbers seeking extra sustenance.
