Sailing luminaries tame their sea legs at the end of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race here, celebrating with a glass of champagne.
Set within the Grand Chancellor Hotel at the northern end of Davey Street, The Atrium Bar features a huge curved glass wall (and ceiling) that overlooks Hobart's waterfront. Though the effect of this design should be more spectacular than it is - with the ground level positioning just too low to take maximum advantage of the view - it nevertheless remains a lovely sunny space all day and a relaxing place with a decent view for a drink while you wait for dinner.
For after dark drinks, the lounge bar lacks the intimacy required for it to be a really good evening space - it adjoins the hotel foyer and doesn't ever quite remove you from it. For a business meeting, though, or a small gathering, it's a nice quiet place with attentive service and a basic, but decent, bar. Less the place for an evening out, this is more the spot for tourists to sit and plan the day or evening ahead. As a venue it's also suitable for a corporate clientele - very adequate for the convention crowds that frequent the hotel.
