Set in one of Australia's oldest commercial buildings, this venue features five bars and a cobblestone courtyard. Cocktails and international DJs are the main drawcards.
The recent launch of this multi-tiered bar and nightclub has upped the sophistication level of drinking in The Rocks.
Housed in an old storage building, which dates back to the early 1800s, The Argyle's multi-million-dollar facelift has been masterminded by acclaimed designer Michael McCann, who is famous for his decor work at venues such as Flying Fish and Pony. Structurally speaking, much of the old world remains, with a sandstone courtyard and exposed wooden beams incorporated into the posh new look. Mustard booths and a carved sandstone bar add a new-millennium feel, as does the arresting array of floor-to-ceiling lamps in one of the upstairs bars.
Cocktails are a highlight; mixologist Loy Catada's menu features eclectic signatures such as the Apple Tobacco Iced Tea and the Argyle Aviation (Luxardo maraschino liqueur, Tanqueray 10 and lemon juice). Add to that a mammoth collection of wines and delicious bar food and you'll find little reason to move once you've found a cosy seat. However, if you do decide to hit the dance floor, you can expect to groove to underground house music by a rotating selection of local and international DJs.
