Yes, another booze-sponsored "pop-up" bar is doing the rounds, but props have to be given to this funky makeshift wine lounge, which has taken the trend to a new level.
These innovative Kiwis, along with their luscious Marlborough-produced vino, have snatched this new craze by the gonads and gone one step further by making the bar mobile and hauling it all over the place for the 2010 Sydney Festival.
The stylish structure, designed by renowned architects Kelvin Ho and Jeremy Bull, is constructed out of an enormous 40-foot shipping container and lined with the famous Stoneleigh sunstones. The lounge also features a gorgeous alfresco wine garden.
Weighing in at about 12 tonnes, the bar certainly doesn't let a bit of extra weight slow it down - in fact, the bar has been quite the mover and shaker, zipping all over Sydney sites including Customs House, the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Dawes Point and more recently Bungalow 8 (until January 31). The elusive watering hole also has its sights set on Melbourne's City Square (February 24-28), and will open to the public each lunchtime 12pm-3pm, and evenings 5pm-10pm.
The luxury bar hosts a regular line-up of live music performances and DJs, so guests can kick back and enjoy the entertainment while indulging in some of the award-winning tipple.
Call it a novelty, but the concept is sure to be a hit. The location is variable, so be sure to check the official Facebook page, where the latest locations are revealed.
