You had better double-check your testosterone levels at the door of this no frills boozer - and don't even think about ordering a Flirtini.
Squires Tavern is described by its management as an iconic bar located in the middle of the CBD. It is one of Darwin's longest established venues, but somewhere a bunch of girls on a ladies' night out would probably avoid.
Squires comes alive on blokey weekends in Darwin, such as the V8 Supercar Championship or the Rugby 7s competition, when the pub gets filled with crowds of men with nothing on their mind but sports-fueled camaraderie. However, outside these special event times, Squires' patronage might include some of the less desirable characters from around town - probably not helped by the strip club operating next door. That said, it is still quite a highly rated drinking hole among Darwin's men folk. You'll often find groups of lads who are visiting town on a buck's night and are looking for somewhere to drink cheap jugs of beer.
Inside, Squires is packed with pool tables and has loads of pokie machines. A word of advice: don't try asking for a wine list or a glass of quality sparkling, but if you're looking for a pint, a rum and coke or a similarly manly-sounding drink, then this is the place to be.
