This place is dedicated to sangria, tapas, divine vino and flamenco performances that sizzle with Spanish passion.
Bold, bright and fiery at heart, Spanish Tapas Bar is swathed in a colour scheme that commands attention. Strong tones of red, yellow and black coat the space and evoke the feeling of a Mediterranean hacienda.
Suitably, the regular crowd that comes here is equally colourful. Young university students and chirpy middle-aged couples flock to the bar on weekends, soaking up the deceptively potent sangria (made with traditional Rioja red wine, juices, drunken fruit pieces, soda water and a hint of brandy).
Aside from the naughty sangria, the bar also serves a broad variety of red and white vinos, carefully sourced from all around Spain. Some can be rather pricey (at an average of $10 per glass), but they do delight the senses, making them well worth the extra couple of bucks. Alternatively, guests can sink some imported beers, or try a nip or two of sweet sherry.
From Thursday to Saturday, live flamenco guitarists take over the barscape, and flamboyant dancers also stamp out their talents every Saturday, moving to the traditional rhythms and swishing their ruffled costumes.
The kitchen serves up dishes such as classic paella, chorizo, calamari and garlic mussels. Complimentary tapas are also available with the purchase of a drink at the bar from 6-8pm on Mondays.
