This new addition to the Oxford Street strip is a chic, sophisticated gay-friendly venue. The 'dance where you stand' policy keeps the tempo upbeat.
This place describes itself as a chameleon venue. It's a bar, club, lounge and restaurant rolled into one neat package. And if this reference to 'chameleon' instantly evokes thoughts of Boy George and Culture Club, you've got a pretty good idea of what Slide is all about. Sydney's new gay nightspot is located in the old Commonwealth Bank building and it's a sexy venue focused on dance, cabaret and theatre. Slide subscribes to a 'dance where you stand' policy, and with regular nights featuring house DJs and live performances, this is a spot where no-one is left sitting down. What sets Slide apart from Oxford Street's other party-hardy institutions however, is its sophisticated and chic atmosphere. Downstairs, a shiny tiled bar offers five beers on tap, including James Squire and the Japanese label Kirin. Venture upstairs and you will find an intimate cocktail lounge, which suits post-work drinks. For something refreshing, try the Slider cocktail: it mixes vodka with peach schnapps, watermelon liqueur, guava, ruby grapefruit and cranberry juice. There are plenty of East-meets-West treats to nibble on such as roast duck with homemade pancakes, finely sliced cucumber and hoi sin sauce.
