With Guinness flowing readily, and entertainment every night of the week, a visit to this Irish pub is bound to lead to some shenannigans!
The Irish sure know how to have a good time. In Gaelic, the word 'craic' is used to describe the fun and laughs that are so often enjoyed with a pint of Guinness in hand. A long way from Ireland, Shenannigans captures the essence of Irish pub heritage, allowing you to experience the craic right in the middle of Darwin. Shenannigans opened its doors in 1996, and since then it has become a popular local fixture. There are several beers available on tap, including Guinness and Kilkenny. For those serious Guinness drinkers there is the 100 Pints Club. Register your name at the bar, and once you have downed 100 pints (no, not in one sitting!) your name will be immortalised on the 100 pints board. The entertainment offered seven nights a week includes live music, karaoke, and quizzes. Every Thursday night is 'Schoolies', where punters don their knee-high socks and school ties, and get silly on the dance floor. There are even tabletop dancing competitions throughout the night. Aye, it's a shenannigan!
Shags aka Shenannigans is the second home for most people I know.. Staff are usually on the ball, food is great, the place has atmosphere even when there's a handful of people in the place, and there's entertainment seven nights a week.
As a female I can feel safe going into the place on my own or as part of a girls night out, knowing that there are rarely fights in there and if you have hassles with someone security will look out for you.
If you haven't been you've got to check the place out...no trip to Darwin is complete without a few (dozen) drinks at Shags!
