Part comfy lounge bar, part garden oasis, this venue has plenty of appeal. Dance, play outside or just flop onto a couch and order up a Funf cocktail (cinnamon Havana Club, ginger beer and lime).
A little while ago four friends had a dream. It was to enjoy all the sensory pleasures that life has to offer without attracting the attention of the police. Well, that dream has now materialised in the form of a bar named Sentido Funf. Half Spanish and half German, the name more or less translates into 'Five Senses'.
With a slap of new paint and some nifty flocked wallpaper, this Gertrude Street venue formally known as Yelza has been transformed into a different (and fine) addition to Fitzroy's thriving bar culture. The bar is already filling up with locals who are eager for some superb cocktail mixing or their own tabletop beer tap (you've gotta see this thing).
The rat pack-style furniture inside beckons you to make it your home for the evening ('C'mon darling, have a seat on the Admiral'). For a bit of fresh air, the outdoor bar will see you well and truly indulging all of your five senses and maybe even have you discovering another one or two.
A strong emphasis on funky tunes and a sizeable dance space means most nights of the week see humanoids up and shaking their thang. And with a massive outdoor area, or 'Garden of Earthly Delights' as they call it, Sentido Funf seems to be one of those places where you can't wait to get in the door, but can't always remember leaving.
