Retro '70s style is alive and well here, thanks to the shagpile carpet wall and bean bags. Grab a mojito and soak up DJ sounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
It's the rumpus room you've never dreamed of. There are rich red walls flanked by smooth charcoal drapes, concrete floors, comfy leather couches, a beanbag corner on one side and an arcade game on the other. There's even a shagpile carpet wall.
Rumpus Room takes the pretension out of the modern cocktail lounge - and being located in West End certainly helps this. You might spot anyone in the crowd from cool young things to West End urban hippies. Everyone is invited to this party.
Although the cocktail menu sounds like something straight out of
Sesame Street (Big Bird makes an appearance), the cocktails are anything but soft. Snuggle into a beanbag with a Snagglepuss (gin, Cointreau, watermelon, basil, chilli and lemon). Alternatively ask the bar staff to mix up your favourite - really, anything goes.
If you're feeling peckish, you can tuck into some noodles from next door's Noodle Box, served in a red Chinese-style takeaway box.
Tune-wise, expect funk and hip-hop beats. Rumpus Room is a strictly house-free zone. Shelves are also stuffed with vintage vinyl records and the DJ is obliged to play at least one of these old tracks every hour, so you might hear a snippet of classical music or blast-from-the-past rock mixed in now and then.
