VIP hidey-holes and cool kid party areas swathed in retro-cool furnishings play host to rock stars and wannabes alike.
Tucked behind a traffic light in a maroon terrace on Oxford Street, Ruby Rabbit tempts Sydney's skinny jean-wearing rock star wannabes with big-time DJs and diversely different party areas.
On street level, a retro-cool American-style diner straight from the set of Grease serves up milk bar fare to modern-day T-Birds and Pink Ladies. As the evening heats up, continue on to a luxe lounge swathed in chocolate and caramel houndstooth. Conjuring images of an old-school bachelor pad and gilded girls with giant afros, the lounge has a secret Maxwell Smart-esque escape plan for VIPs keen to continue their own celebrations in a 1970s-style motel room. Entry is by thumb-print scan and will require a credit card limit reserved for those with chart-topping albums and blockbuster films.
Ascend the staircase to the level one bar, home to house and electro DJs on Fanclub Fridays and Yellow on Saturdays, and get down and dirty with fake-tanned girls and eyeliner-clad boys. The drinks aren't cheap but they'll do the job.
Know the right people (or pay the right amount) and be allowed up to the attic level members-only area, inspired by the allure of an 18th-century French salon. Top-shelf tipples and a secret bookcase (which harbours a hidden room beyond) create a space that's oh-so-exclusive.
