Trivia, karaoke, rump steak specials and DJ sounds attract faithful crowds to this renovated pub. Kick back in the Garden Bar if you want a sun-and-booze combo.
Call it the Royal George if you're being particular, or just the 'RG' if you're a local regular. This renovated joint serves Heineken, VB and Tooheys on tap and it is home to three distinct drinking areas, each with their own style.
Venture into the Corner Bar and you'll find plasma screens, mod touches and shiny stainless steel. Meanwhile the adjoining VIP Room is decked out with pool tables, luxe furnishings and an independent sound system. Finally, the Garden Bar is where crowds come to catch some rays while drinking booze and working on face-and-shoulder tans. It's also the place to take in the passing parade and do some people-watching, especially on Saturdays when the Valley Markets are on.
Events at the RG follow a weekly routine. Wednesdays are marked by rump steak specials, so you can chow down on a slab of meat before testing your brainpower with trivia and then hitting the Garden Bar to witness (or inflict) some karaoke. Thursdays are dedicated to two-for-one pizza deals and DJ tunes which solidly revolve around house and chart hits. Fridays and Saturdays feel even more clubby, with house DJs cranking out sounds until 5am.
The cocktail menu includes all those predictable, run-of-the-mill classics, as well as the signature RG Cornered creation(vodka blended with Chambord, strawberries and sugar).
