Step inside this Fitzroy beer-castle and salute the metal suit of armour standing guard. The Rochy cranks up the volume on Friday nights with indie, rock, electro and new-wave sounds.
The Rochester Castle's famous indie, new-wave and electro night 'Panic!' provides a cure for dance addicts and workaholics alike. If you're feeling sluggish from staring at four walls all week, 'Panic!' (every Friday) is a way to get your blood pumping again. This renovated pub is one of the few places in Melbourne where you can let it all hang out and get dancing to anti-Top 40 stuff. Expect to hear all the new-wave classics as well as hits from Britain's current new wave bands - such as Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. There's a spacious dance floor on which to strut your stuff, as well as several booths to collapse into when you're knackered. The whole front bar is filled with cracked old leather couches if you're not in the mood to bust a move, plus there's a pool table up the back. For fans of more rocky fare, The Rochy hosts an indie, rock and pop night every Saturday - another dance marathon which lasts till 3am. Want more? There are various live music acts and open mic sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, trivia on Wednesdays and televised sport in the beer garden on Sunday afternoon.
