Combining fish and chips with fine tipple, New Brunswick's first wine bar offers a relaxed air with something a little different
This classy little wine bar has popped up in the ever-changing landscape at the south end of Sydney Road in Brunswick. Seeing a gap in the market for a wine and cocktail bar, Robbie's Stein offers a large range of interesting and high quality tipple pitching at all price points.
Step into this sleek venue and settle into the tall banquettes matched with chunky wooden tables, and try one of the house-created cocktails. Perhaps start with the 304 Martini - a combo of lemongrass, vodka, sake, lychee liquor and cold green tea. The cocktail menu changes seasonally, but some of the favourites will remain ever-present. The wine list is predominantly Australian, with some special drops like Mumm French Champagne available for celebratory outbursts.
Robbie's Stein also offers some excellent cheese plates and tapas to keep the hunger pangs at bay, or you can step up to some of the innovative delights from the full kitchen menu.
In a further mould-breaking move for Brunswick (or anywhere for that matter), this wine bar also doubles as a very classy fish and chip shop. The large windows slide open to create a breezy atmosphere in the summer, and the outdoor seating on the street provides an intimate alcove for alfresco lovers.
