Proving that a facelift needn't be a scary process for spectators, this faithful watering hole has gained a new lease on life.
The Queens is a contemporary pub with old-world roots, located in heritage-listed grounds. The exposed brick interior of the renovated building (originally built as a coach house in 1899), combined with the modern outdoor jarrah decking gives a balanced feeling of old and new. The creative architectural changes have bravely challenged the feng shui gods - and won. The exposed ceiling beams of the main bar open up to the second floor and let in plenty of sunlight.
The kitchen of the dedicated bistro is always busy, with table service available. The menu ranges from light snacks such as a trio of dips with toasted Turkish bread, to more substantial pub fare such as a 300g rump steak or wine-braised lamb shanks.
If you're a beer lover, you should have no trouble finding a suitable pint from the comprehensive selection of local and imported beers on tap (such as Cascade, Kronenbourg and Stella). Once you have your favourite pint, find a table in the main courtyard and watch the world go by on Beaufort Street, one of Perth's coolest stretches of bitumen.
The Queens is also open for breakfast on weekends, with the mixed grill breakfast (fried egg, minute steak, bacon, veal sausage and toast) a local favourite.
