This boozer is particularly popular in summer, when crowds head into the courtyard for their fix of the beloved pint-and-sun combo. Could it be South Australia's earliest hotel? Perhaps ...
First established way back in the 1800s, this neighbourhood pub has had a long and colourful history. It's said to be the oldest hotel in South Australia, but nobody has given the rumour an official stamp of recognition, so let's just say the Queen's Head has been the place to get a beer for a damned long time and has caused plenty of hangovers.
The recently renovated pub now attracts large crowds who flow through in force, especially after sporting or music events wrap up at the nearby Adelaide Cricket Ground.
Inside, the main area feels just like a cosy living room, with a glowing fireplace that's a toasty drawcard during winter months. When summer hits, most drinkers disperse into the medium-sized courtyard, which offers ample seating, the possibility of a face-and-shoulder tan and a second bar area which ensures that no-one goes thirsty.
Drink-wise, there's Coopers and Stella Artois on tap, as well as wine sourced from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Italy and France.
Live bands belt out their sounds on Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights and DJs dominate the program on Saturday nights.
If hunger strikes, sample the cost-effective parmi-and-pint special on Tuesdays or a steak-and-chips deal on Thursdays.
