Live music? Check. Cascade and Guinness on tap? Check. This place is a winner, but don't leave your drink sitting around on the beloved piano. It's a definite no-no.
This is another one of Hobart's serious muso pubs. Jazz, rock, acoustic and folk acts all get a run. Big names like Jenny Morris, Mia Dyson, Kate Miller Heidke and Monique Brumby play here matter-of-factly and, while it's open during the day, everything about this place speaks of gearing up for a big night.
Queen's Head is a large venue in a great location - set on the North Hobart restaurant and bar strip. It features a restaurant and a bar that serves Cascade and Guinness on tap.
When there's a pub-rock band playing you can doof-doof yourself silly down in front of a stack of speakers or alternatively head upstairs for a bit of a break. The rooms up there are sparse and suitable for late-night mingling.
The venue is stylishly fitted out and coated in lots of deep brown and aubergine tones. It's a welcoming and relaxed place that's pretension-free. That said, there are still serious penalties (chiefly loss of drink) for anyone silly enough to see the grand piano as a coaster. So you've been warned; if you're looking for a spot to rest a $15 cocktail, look elsewhere.
