Renovations have modernised this classic local pub, but it still remains true to the simple pleasures of beer, steak, pokies and trivia. DJs also feature on Fridays and Saturdays.
It may seem like traditional pub culture is slowly withering away, but not at this joint. Being a local, the QA Hotel keeps its hallowed pub life pure and simple for the neighbourhood crowd and the regular office packs. Yes, it's been renovated and looks somewhat spiffy inside, but that doesn't mean it's overly fancy. Think twice before requesting a chi-chi cocktail at the bar. Here, tap beer still remains the classic drink of choice for most, and you'll find Tooheys Extra Dry, Carlton Draught, Becks, and Heineken at the ready, along with plenty of other names. The regulars come here to catch up over beers and get their fill of standard pub thrills dished out by the TAB, the pokies and the pool tables. DJ sounds rule on Fridays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, Wednesday nights are dedicated to Trashy Trivia. Academics beware: a background in literature, politics or physics will prove pretty much useless. If any of these topics are your specialty, you're likely to be the team's 'dead wood'. Instead, the Trashy Trivia honours those who know their petty Hollywood gossip and their sporting results. The kitchen serves up the usual steak and chips, as well as more refined bistro nosh.
