Prudence: noun - practical wisdom or good judgement, specifically in relation to the pouring of drinks and the playing of records.
Prudence is the quintessential local, a relaxed joint where heads don't turn every time the door opens and you can strike up a conversation with anyone leaning on the bar. On a good night you'll be drinking with new-found friends until the kebab cravings come a-rumbling.
This rambling former record store has a well-loved feel, with plenty of retro furniture and eclectic decoration spread throughout. The front bar has a long bench for peering out at the world scurrying home, and there's a beer garden out the back from which to take in the night sky. Head upstairs to find some easy-to-sink-into couches; settle in for the long haul and enjoy some of the James Squires range that's on tap.
The staff keep patrons on their toes with a genre-shuffling record collection. Classic cocktails are on offer, alongside a cheese platter that's a cut above the average fare. If you step up to the hard stuff, you'll find an excellent selection of Scotland's finest malts, or walk on the wild side with Scorpion mescal, complete with a spiky fellow staring out from the bottle at you.
