While the decor offers an offbeat '70s retrospective, there's nothing else old-fashioned about this bar, with its slick cocktail creations and DJ sounds.
The fact that Proller's decor features law journals stashed away under some of the seats probably tells you as much about it as any review you might read. Proller is one of Hobart's newest and most fashionable cocktail bars, offering a combination of laidback sophistication and offbeat style.
Proller is best described as a cross between the kind of lounge room you wish you had at home (complete with conveniently plentiful side tables and a fully stocked bar) and the kind of lounge room you probably did have when you moved into your first student flat. The space is decked out with a St Vincent de Paul warehouse's worth of armchairs and couches, forming an amusing vintage retrospective of '70s-style pleather, bobbly fabric and shades of brown and burnt orange.
DJs keep the mood steady with a selection of breaks and chilled ambient sounds. Booze-wise, there is a good selection of beers, with Coopers Pale Ale and Boags on tap, but it's the choice of cocktails that really stands out. For the ultimate reviving post-work drinkie, try the Ginger Whinger - a combination of Tanqueray Gin and Galliano, muddled with ginger and lemon, and topped with lemonade.
