Prince of Wales Hotel

Against all odds, this Prince of Wales is down to earth, but still has a dash of English country charm.

Battery Point is one of those ye olde-style towns that has managed to escape the grit and cynicism of modern living - picture the kind of place that could host a BBC murder mystery. That's an impressive feat for somewhere only 10 minutes walk from Hobart's city centre. In the midst of all this charming intrigue is the dependable Prince of Wales Hotel.

Open seven days a week, the Prince is there for the weary traveller as much as for the thirsty locals who prop up the bar. Popular for post-work drinks, be it a hard earned cab sav or a cold schooner of boutique specialty Moobrew, this typical pub calls to the everyman.

If you're too lazy to get up off your barstool and head into the adjoining restaurant (a produce-driven destination in its own right), then the bar menu should keep you sated. If your palate isn't adventurous enough to take on the fresh-shucked oysters, there's a selection of old-school favourites from nachos to a steak sandwich.

There's a refreshing lack of pokies, so when the bands roll in on the weekend to perform, they don't have to compete with the florescent noise-makers for attention.
