Regal and relaxed, this new bar on the block has old world charm with some great new world drinks.
Penny Blue is the demure little sister of the Money Order Office (the restaurant and wine bar located directly downstairs). The Money Order pedigree shows here as Penny Blue has a quality wine list, a serious selection of top-shelf spirits and some ripping cocktails to stimulate the senses.
While the little bar may be tucked out of the way, it won't stay a secret for long; its secluded location across from the rear of the GPO will soon be discovered by those with a discerning taste for a quality watering hole. Lavishly decorated, Penny Blue has a lush, luxe atmosphere. Rich suede couches, leather chairs, gilded furniture and vast mirrors provide a grand setting for a glass of real French Champagne, or some top-notch Australian wine.
Penny Blue proudly stocks a fresh and vibrant array of beer from around the globe, the staff hunting out new and rare varieties to add to the rotating list. Try a fresh and crisp Alhambra Reserva 1925 from Spain, or the La Fin Du Monde, a Belgian Trappist style of ale from Canada. The specialty beers change seasonally, so all the more reason to drop in regularly and taste what's new that week.
