You won't find any mariners reminiscing about their seafaring days here. This is one cool little laidback live music hideaway.
Stroll a little way along the Manly Corso and keep a sharp eye out for the unobtrusive entrance to this gem of a bar. Descend the steep wooden staircase and you'll find an intimate basement venue that's ready to serve up a good night of live music or comedy. There are plenty of Australian beers and sprits available at the bar and ample seating before the stage. If you don't like the loud plasma-screen-filled rough-and-ready variety of pub - and there are many of these in Manly - you should definitely retreat to this hole-in-the-wall style hideaway.
The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and though it can get a bit boozy and rowdy on Saturday nights - when there are usually live bands playing - on weeknights it is a charmer. The Old Manly Boatshed hosts stand-up comedy on Monday nights, and on Wednesday nights there is a long-running - and free - local singer-songwriter showcase. If you're not a Northern Beaches local, it's a pleasant amble back to the wharf - possibly via a peek at the fairy penguins that emerge after dark - to catch the last ferry home.
