Harbour views, a full cocktail list and authentic tapas make this stylish bar a funky destination.
Tapas seems to be the new big thing in dining; in fact, the cuisine is now so prevalent on Hobart menus that many patrons have been complaining of 'tapas tiredness', believing they have eaten every variation on aceitunas and chopitos in existence.
Then the Observatory comes along: advertising itself as a tapas and cocktail bar, the Observatory Bar, on Hobart's iconic Murray Street Pier, may well be the place to lure patrons back to a place that dares to associate itself with anything small and Spanish. And, while the tapas may be some of the more authentic you'll find this side of Madrid, what makes the Observatory a drawcard for Hobart hipsters, young and old, can be summed up in three words: cocktails, couches and cool views (okay, four words).
Not enough can be said about the Observatory's spectacular location right on the harbour; equally, the assortment of uber-comfortable (and incredibly stylish), seating options will leave many a weary Hobartian lost for words. Then there are the cocktails, with a great range of regulars plus many more available by request from the friendly bar staff. Their signature cocktail, Observe This - a potent but delicious mix of muddled lime, sugar, Absolut Citron, Paraiso Lychee liqueur and lychee sake - will definitely help you to enjoy the Observatory's relaxed but funky atmosphere. If cocktails aren't your style, there's also a great range of boutique beers and quality wines on offer to enjoy while you chill out to the live DJs who spin their beats at the Observatory most nights.
