This old-fashioned Irish pub offers up more than just Guinness on tap and old drunk men.
This 1800s hotel has a cosy charm. Other eastern suburbs venues have been remodelled to the eyeballs but the Norwood is grounded with tradition. It houses Finn MacCool's Irish Pub and the Osmond Terrace Function Centre. Clientele enjoy good brews, live entertainment and are not concerned about what labels they wear.
A central bar is located between the Music and Hunting Rooms. Both are richly decorated with musical instruments, hunting and sporting equipment. Artefacts have come from Ireland and the UK. Low-level wooden stools and tables fill the floorboards. For a comfortable night in, secure a cushioned booth.
Naturally, Guinness and Kilkenny are on tap. Others include Old Speckled Hen, Stella Artois, Heineken and Beez Neez. Wine by the glass starts at just $4.50. Cocktails make for a nice alternative to brews and bubbles.
Stouts and ales are good company by the open fireplace. For an extra warm glow, there is room to dance near the corner stage. Local bands and open-mic nights keep everyone on their toes.
The function centre gets rave reviews for Norwood Live. Gigs from Aussie rock favourites have included Diesel, James Reyne, Ross Wilson and the Black Sorrows. Go for the show and dinner package.
