This four-storey bar and nightclub has been a Canberra stalwart for more than 15 years. Expect plenty of dancing and debauchery, with ridiculously cheap drinks on offer every Thursday night.
After opening its doors back in 1990 (circa Private Bin, Pandora's and Heaven era), Mooseheads fast became a prominent fixture in Canberra's nightlife scene. Cut-loose uni students and young ADFA cadets quickly made it their after-dark home, converging on the bar for messy nights filled with cheap flowing beer.
In 2002 however, this ever-popular spot suffered a fire, and Canberrans suffered the loss of a longstanding institution. But as that age-old saying attests, good things never die, and two years later Mooseheads was raised from the ashes - literally.
Today, 'The Moose' spans four levels, and has earned back its reputation as one of Canberra's premier nightspots. The bottom two floors offer up a laidback atmosphere and a setting dotted with pool tables and cosy couches. Upstairs is given over to a buzzing nightclub. Guest DJs and live cover bands entertain the masses every weekend, playing upbeat commercial house and rowdy pub anthems.
Lads with military haircuts and undergrads reign supreme here, particularly during Thursday's 'Hour of Power' when drinks cost only $3 between 9-2am.
Mooseheads serves a wide selection of local and imported beers, and there is a particular focus on Canadian labels.
There's also a good selection of cocktails available. For something altogether unique, order up a Fluffy Moose: it combines Advocaat, Alize Gold, pineapple and cream.
