This sculpture-dotted bar attracts artists and all sorts of colourful characters. Comedy features on Tuesdays and DJs play on Fridays and Saturdays.
It's really not surprising that a couple of artists own Monties. The rich red walls lined with objects d'art (all made by creative locals) are a dead giveaway.
This drink spot doubles as an unconventional gallery space. Check out the wire sculptures, which have lights shining through them, casting huge shadows onto the brick walls. All these arty pieces are a delight for the eyes. For the mouth, get yourself a glass, pot or shot of whatever you fancy. Beer-wise, you'll find Stella Artois, Guinness, Coopers and Carlton on tap. There's also a small range of cocktails available, however most regulars seem to prefer to keep it simple and stick with ale and house wine.
Grab a seat along the egg-shaped bar made of corrugated iron and you'll probably find yourself surrounded by some of Smith Street's most colourful characters. They may be hanging for some drink-inspired dialogue, but they'll have to strain their smoky voices to be heard above the chatter and the jazzy beats.
Challenge a mate to a game of pool, order up some pub grub or cut loose on Friday and Saturday nights when DJs pump out retro dance tunes until closing time at 3am. Tuesday nights are dedicated to stand-up comedy ($5 entry) and showcase both amateur and professional talent.
