Bar Information
Mehfil
With a long drinks menu to choose from, this New Farm eatery serves up a variety of chilled libations to wash down your tasty Indian snacks.
Not many traditional Indian restaurants advertise their bar as a feature, but having visited Mehfil I think that's a bit of a shame; if ever a cuisine lent itself to standing around with a drink, surely this is it. We're not recommending that you juggle a beef vindaloo with your Indian Pale Ale - we're talking proper Indian finger food that goes beyond the usual pappadums and cocktail samosas; think crisp pani-puri (fried semolina pastry shells with a filling of potato, chilli and tamarind) and the ever-popular onion pakora (coated in chickpea batter and deep fried). While it's not lean cuisine, it still goes better with a beer than celery sticks, and it's probably no surprise to see that their amber options almost outnumber those on the wine list, with almost 20 beers to choose from (including Kingfisher, of course). For non-beer drinkers or Aishwarya-wannabes, there's also a willingness to mix a cocktail and a good selection of chili-friendly wines. Bollywood parties may be a little 2002, but so are Mehfil's prices.
