One of the city's largest nightclubs, this spot sports some striking decor. Dance to trance, breaks and house DJs every Friday and Saturday night.
As soon as you walk through the door and ascend the stairs you know that Meche is a little bit different. Striking etchings decorate the stairway walls - drawing inspiration from the East - and, along with dark wood fittings and gorgeous artwork, it's an alluring look.
There's ample space for socialising in the main bar, which has an elevated seating area that's great for people-watching. Toward the back is another bar specialising in cocktails, with a comfortable lounge area that overlooks the dance floor. Finally, shrouded by curtains and overlooking the glittering lights of Northbourne Avenue, is the VIP area.
The beverage list also differentiates Meche from the neighbouring clubs. Sure, you can get a Smirnoff Twist or a beer, but you can also sample the sparkling wine and cognac list (just make sure you're not paying). The indulgent choices on offer include the house drop - Chandon (available by the glass) - and all the top players like Moet, Verve, Krug and Dom.
The cocktail list is comprehensive - there are almost 30 to choose from - with a selection of mocktails on offer for the designated drivers. The club's namesake tipple - 'Mish Meched' - is a fusion of anise-infused Smirnoff vodka, Mount Gay rum and ginger cordial shaken with mango and pineapple and served tall.
