What you say about Mecca Bah

Public not open to the general public
I was excited about the new bar called Public opening in Manuka this weekend. As a nice, elegant bar it seemed like it would fill a gap in something Manuka has been missing for a while. I was envisioning being able to spend Friday nights after work with my girl friends. The location next to Julep Lounge and near restaurants that I frequent is great and I even thought Mecca Bah would miss out on some of my business... however that is not to be.

I was discriminated against tonight at the Public bar in Manuka. My friend and I had two glasses of wine each and were then told to our surprise that we were not allowed to use the toilet. Apparently we were dressed inappropriately. We were dressed in casual clothes from our usual Saturday afternoon activities. My firend was wearing jeans and a top and I had on casual pants and a sun shirt.

I have never felt so humiliated in my life. I had been talking this new experience up to my friend all day and then with one statement from the staff member my enthusiasm balloon was burst. Apparently I was not good enough. I felt belittled, small and worthless. We had just spent $50 on drinks and were in no way disruptive or intoxicated. We had been sitting quietly chatting amongst ourselves and we had been served twice without any indication of any problem.

I live in Manuka and between my friend and I we earn over $300K a year. We're both size 8, healthy and fit. Not that that should matter. Nobody should be treated like this. It shouldn't matter how much money you have, what body shape you have or what clothes you wear.

We asked the staff if we could see the dress code and they replied "we don't have it written, it's at our discretion". How do they expect us to know what this means. When I heard that reply I wondered whether my friend and I had been discriminated against because of our age. I saw the demographic was largely 18 years of age. I also noticed people smoking in the outdoor seating area unabated.
