A sister venue to Bimbo Deluxe, this bar with a rooster theme offers punchy drinks, cosy couches, DJ tunes and cheap pizzas. Winter boozing looks ultra comfy here.
The name Lucky Coq may raise an eyebrow or two, but it isn't meant to be rude or crude. It's just a little bit cheeky.
You see, 'coq' means 'rooster' in French. And this venue has taken a shine to the French meaning of the word. It has filled its space with all sorts of faux roosters. There are plaster coqs, plastic coqs and feathered coqs. Lots and lots of coqs - or roosters - or whatever you'd like to call them.
A sibling of Bimbo Deluxe (which sits on the other side of the Yarra River), the Coq serves the same legendary gourmet pizzas, and it keeps its kitchen open until 2.30am from Monday to Saturday. Calabrese and Agnello are the most popular pizzas on the menu.
This place is also home to the same famous (read: evil) Wyborowa infused vodkas that have made Bimbo Deluxe a local icon and a favourite stumbling ground after dark. The vodka flavours range from Turkish delight through to lychee, pomegranate, watermelon, ginger and vanilla.
Lucky Coq considers itself to be a laidback place without the snoot factor. Regulars come for simple pleasures - namely pizza, booze, pool and tunes. There's a dance floor upstairs and a small, heated outdoor area which draws the smokers.
DJs play every night of the week, mixing electro and house with funk, hip hop and breaks.
