Kiss My West End. Get your mind out of the gutter; it's a cocktail, served up by the friendly barkeep at this cheery bistro.
While West-Enders might have a reputation for being somewhat reluctant when it comes to embracing the hopeful, bright-eyed enterprises popping up on the R&R radar, this Boundary Street gastro-pub seems to be winning hearts left, right and centre.
Though quiet and understated from the entrance, the narrow and somewhat demure bar opens up into a warm dining area. The abundance of timber and natural materials offers a welcoming change from the industrial, minimalist fad taking the country by storm. Keep walking and you'll discover a leafy beer garden out back, fit for dining or boozing.
The thoughtful wine list ensures the southern states are well represented, with such drops as the Hollick Wrattonbully Shiraz (try saying that three times after you've downed the first reasonably priced bottle), or the Ninth Island Sparkling from Tassie. The beer fridge is well-stocked and houses everything from the run-of-the-mill to the cute and boutique, such as Little Creatures or Beez Neez. For those with a sweet tooth, the cheekily entitled cocktail Kiss My West End (Zubrowka vodka, peach liqueur, passionfruit and apple juice) should satisfy.
Supporting creative types of both musically and visually artistic varieties, their walls serve as a gallery, hosting rotating exhibitions of work by local artists.
